Dancers Write...
FunkyFitness

Amateur and professional dancers looking for the ultimate workout that can keep them fit need search no more. Funk fitness has united the dance and fitness world, and turned it upside down.

  What is it?
Combinations are usually choreographed to an eight count beat and dance cues are used for transitions. Styles range from street, hip-hop, to jazz, and there are no rules. Dancers naturally cling to this type of workout because it is creative and holistic. Repetition is generally thrown out the window and replaced with tantalizing choreography.

What type class should I take?
Dance Specialty classes offer various degrees of dance skill; so pick a class that satisfies your pursuit. For example, if you intend to increase your cardiovascular endurance, look for a high energy, fast paced jazz-fusion class. These type classes usually move to the house/club beat and can be real stress busters. But if you are looking to increase your upper body flexibility, you may look for a hip-hop/funk workshop. These classes are totally street oriented with few rules; the idea is just to groove with the rhythm. A lot of upper body moves and quad work makes this an ideal class for any dance student.

It is also possible to find classes that may combine styles. Variety is the spice of life! Of course the main idea behind any structured dance fitness class is pure energy and fun. To let yourself go and have a good time is more important than technical merit. Dancers and non-dancers alike can dance in these studios without the stress of pure technique and stringent form. It's total liberation.

How do I find a class?
Check with your local fitness club for class information. Private owned studios may also be listed in your local directory (these are usually best). You may also access instructors via the World Wide Web by logging on to the Dance Net website at http://www.dancenetfitness.com. If your region doesn't yet sponsor these types of classes, you can contact any of the instructors listed in the Dance Net Instructor Profile directory for Master Class information. Most instructors will travel to other regions to introduce others to their certain styles. For any further information you can also E-mail Dance Net at dancenet@mindspring.com.
