| Sublets |
| Many New Yorkers leave town for
the summer and those with rent-stabilized apartments cannot legally charge more than 10%
above the base rents for sublets. You can probably find a studio (one room with
kitchenette and bath) in a building with an elevator and a doorman for $1700-$2000 a
month; a studio in a building with a buzzer and an elevator for $1400-$1500; and a studio
in a walk-up building with a buzzer for $1300-$1400 a month. One-bedrooms range from $1700
to $2300 depending on amenities. For teachers or parents chaperoning two or three
students, this may be the ideal solution, if you bring sleeping bags or futons and sleep
dormitory style. Look in the Sunday New York Times, or call Feathered Nest at (212)
867-8500 for summer sublet listings. Be sure to mention that you're a dance student who
would like to be near your classes. |
