Showbeat Productions
Inc.
Mic Thompson,
ChoreographerA common thread among the many Entertainment Directors, Choreographers and Producers I've introduced you to over the last few months is that they were all dancers who never stopped learning. A dancer never knows where their dance career will take them. If a dancer continues to learn, then the sky's the limit. Tony Selznick is a successful dance agent. Minnie Madden and Grover Dale have successful dance magazines and Mic Thompson
is dancing and choreographing up a storm.
Mic's
Background
Mic started dancing at 10 years of age and was working illegally in Las Vegas at the "Casino De Paris" at 16. Don't tell the Sheriff's Department but he lied about his age. He toured with Michael Jackson in "Dangerous" and "Ghost". He was a regular on Dick Clark's "Your Big Break" and he's Jay Leno's dance double on the "Tonight Show". You never know where dance is going to take you!
Always learning, Mic went to Brigham Young University to choreograph "West Side Story" and was bitten by the choreography bug. His big break came when he started choreographing for Disney with The Mickey Mouse Club. That one connection proved invaluable with continuous work for Pleasure Island, Disneyland Parades and The Hercules Victory Parade. During the Hercules Parade program Mic met Derick LaSalla,
owner of Showbeat Productions, and the two began working
together. Some of their early projects were at El Capitan, the ornate movie theater on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles where Mic put together live shows of "The Emperors New Groove," "Scary Etts" (for Monster Inc.) and "GoGo Medusa's" Always busy, he opened "Best of the Nights" in Beijing, China, "Cirque Pan" for Norwegian Cruise Lines and is the choreographic advisor for Magician of the Year, Rick Thomas.
A
Bit About Showbeat
Showbeat Productions came into its own with "Best of Broadway," the premier venue for the Hyatt Hotel in Athens Greece. I will use this centerpiece production to let you know what Showbeat has to offer today's dancer.
"Best of Broadway" will tour Hyatt Hotels throughout Greece. The challenge for Showbeat Productions is to continuously put in new Broadway musicals. There are 10 dancers and 10 singers in the show. All singers are hired here in the States and dancers are hired in the US and in Greece. All will sign a three-month contract and then continue on month to month if both parties agree. Showbeat will fly dancers to Greece, put them up in the Hyatt Hotel, meals included and even give them a rental car to share. The show is one-hour and twenty minutes long and is performed once a night, six days a week. The salary is $1000.00 per week for singers and $850.00 fro dancers.
Showbeat will call Los Angeles dance agencies when looking for new talent and will place ads in Backstage and Callback. Showbeat Productions will accept video submissions from dancer and singers and the vocal coach will make final decisions on singers.
Get
it Right on Foot
If you're considering auditioning for Mic Thompson, you should know that his pet peeve is dancers not having the right shoes. Bring jazz shoes and character shoes to his audition. Don't bring tennis shoes. He is a stickler for exact rhythms and his choreography has a strong musicality. He will give lots of corrections and looks to see if dancers can take direction.
