Ballet dancers will want to make the trip down to the American Ballet Theatre studios, 890 Broadway at 18th Street, where Diana Cartier holds open classes Monday through Thursday at 10:15 a.m. and Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m. ABT company classes and rehearsals are held in the same building when they're not being held at Lincoln Center, so you stand a good chance of getting a glimpse of Paloma Herrera or Angel Corella or Julie Kent or Julio Bocca working on the season's repertoire. And if you've got credentials (director of a regional company, professor at a university dance department, etc.), you might be allowed into the inner sanctum to watch.

890 Broadway is also home to Eliot Feld's Ballet Tech and his ballet school, which gives scholarships to NYC schoolchildren.
